Notorious housebreaker sentenced

Lyttelton police secured the conviction of a long-time thief who targeted homes in Centurion.

Lyttelton police have notched up yet another win in the fight against serious crime in Centurion.

One of Centurion’s most notorious and wanted housebreakers, Thulani Bhila, was sentenced to four years in prison on 25 April following his arrest in November last year.

Bhila was arrested by Constable Matthews Mosesi, who made headlines in March this year when he apprehended a wanted serial rapist who had been targeting women around the city for at least six years.

Lyttelton Police Station spokesperson, Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu, said Mosesi arrested Bhila after four recent house break-ins in Zwartkop and Die Hoewes were all linked to him.

“Constable Mosesi then found out where Bhila was staying from some of his known associates already in prison,” he said.

“He and his partner then went to Bhila’s residence and arrested him.”

He was taken to the Lyttelton Police Station and charged with all the robberies he could be linked to.

Bhila has appeared in court several times since, and was eventually sentenced to four years in prison on four different counts of housebreaking.

Gumbu applauded Mosesi’s tireless work, saying he was “doing very good work”.
