The Garsfontein police together with the Tshwane metro police in conjunction with Atterbury Value Mart held a SAPS Day event on Saturday morning.

The event that started at 09:00, was held in the Atterbury Value Mart parking area where the K9 unit of the metro police and the SAPS demonstrated how they operate during a police chase and dog search.

According to Bronwen Wright the day included many activities, such as the Garsfontein Trompoppies and the Christian Motorcycle Association.

Other stakeholders were the SAPS drug unit, the missing persons bureau, Sunrise trauma centre, department of justice and community policing forums with their stalls which gave information to shoppers.

“Free slush puppies, candy floss and popcorn to all the children and face painting, balloon art and clowns on stilts to entertain them were presented,” said Wright.

A police helicopter was expected to land at the centre but due to duty calls, the helicopter could not come.

Shoppers where advised to report any crime or any suspicious looking person to 08600 10 111.
