Boks hold on for series win
Despite a last minute onslaught from the Irish, the Boks clinched the third test match to win the series 2-1.
The Springboks had enough in their tank to hold on to a 19-13 victory over Ireland at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday night.
After losing their first test match against Ireland two weeks ago, the Boks came back to clinch the third test match, thereby winning the series 2-1.
The Irish started the game with enthusiasm, taking advantage of Willie le Roux’s yellow card in the early stages of the game to score their first try, despite Elton Jantjies getting the first point of match.
The Boks however, got back into the game through a sublime cross from Jantjies that was taken well by JP Pietersen on the left wing.
Pietersen scored a try and this gave the Boks a narrow 13-10 lead heading into half time.
The Irish picked up the intensity in the second half, but the Boks extended their lead through the boots of Ruan Combrink and Jantjies.
A last minute assault from the Irish could not stop the Boks securing a win, thus sealing the series 2-1.
A new era for the Boks started with an impressive series win, a first for Springbok coach Allistar Coetzee.
