Argentinian footballer Lionel Messi has deciced to retire from international football after his country was defeated in the Copa America final.
Messi, widely considered the greatest footballer of his generation, scored 55 times for Argentina between 2005 and 2016 earning 112 caps.
The 29-year-old, who also plays for Spanish giants Barcelona, missed his penalty during the final against Chile which ultimately proved decisive. The Chileans went to win 4-2 on penalties after a goalless draw in regular time.

In the 11 years Messi represented Argentina, he has helped the team to reach four cup finals but unfortunately all ended in defeat.
The little magician, as he is known, was distraught after defeat, which has become a norm for him on international level.
Twitter was ablaze on Monday morning following the announcement, with many disappointed with the Argentinian’s decision.
International Federation of Association Football(FIFA) also paid tribute.
