Metro bus services disrupted

“Commuters are advised to make use of alternative modes of transport as bus availability cannot be guaranteed in some parts of the city.”

Tshwane commuters have been asked to seek alternative transport as a number of metro bus drivers undergo disciplinary hearings.

Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the hearings began on Monday and were scheduled to end on Tuesday.

It involved Tshwane Bus Service (TBS) drivers affiliated with the SA Municipal Workers Union (Samwu), who took part in a 2014 illegal strike

“Commuters are advised to make use of alternative modes of transport as bus availability cannot be guaranteed in some parts of the city,” said Mashigo.

He apologised for the inconvenience and said the metro would resolve the matter as soon as possible.

A concerned commuter complained about a bus depot that was shut down on Monday and again on Tuesday, with no explanation from the metro.

This is not the first time commuters were left stranded.

In September last year, four metro buses were stoned by commuters who were angry over a bus strike that resulted in suspended bus services.

In March this year, bus services were again interrupted when the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) bus drivers went on strike.

BRT drivers allegedly intimidated the TBS and Areyeng bus services, as the two bus services shared a depot.

Samwu was unavailable for comment.
