Pretoria woman brings home Miss World title

Janie Erasmus of Pretoria was crowned Miss Deaf World 2016 in the Czech Republic on Saturday

A Pretoria woman took the title of Miss Deaf World 2016 when she was crowned winner in the Czech Republic on Saturday.

The 27-year-old Janie Erasmus was crowned Miss Deaf SA in October, leading her to the international pageant.

Erasmus was born in Newcastle, but moved to Pretoria with her family for specialised education when she was four-years-old.

A trained beautician and working as a financial manager, her parents discovered her disability when she was eight-months-old.

She matriculated in Eldoraigne.

Erasmus took to her Facebook page to thank her supporters.

“To all my Rainbow-supporters in South Africa and new international friends – thank you for your support, kind words and messages of encouragement for my participation in the Miss Deaf World pageant.”
