Calm returns after land invasion protests
Calm was restored in Mabopane following invasion protests this week.
Calm has returned to Mabopane by Thursday after two days of land invasion protests.
Evicted land grabbers of Itsoseng and Block S in Mabopane barricaded the Mabopane freeway and M17 route in both directions on Tuesday.
They continued doing so on Wednesday, using stones and road signs.
Police spokesperson Captain Mathews Nkoadi said on Thursday the trouble appeared to have abated.
“We cannot say the protests are over and are continuing to keep an eye on the situation,” he said.
“The public violence unit were deployed in the area. and no major activity was taking place on Thursday.”
