BREAKING NEWS: Oscar sentence appeal dismissed
Masipa wasted no time to make her ruling.
An application for leave to appeal against Oscar Pistorius’ six-year prison sentence for murder was dismissed on Friday.
Judge Thokozile Masipa denied the bid in the High Court in Johannesburg with cost.
The National Prosecuting Authority brought the application, arguing that the sentence was “shockingly inapproriate”.
“We want the sentence appeal to go to the Supreme Court of Appeal to be heard by same judges who found Pistorius guilty of murder,” said Nel.
After listening to prosecutor’s Gerrie Nel’s arguments, Masipa wasted little time to make her ruling.
“I am not persuaded that there are reasonable prospects of success on appeal or another court will find differently,” she said.
“For that reason, I grant the following order: The application for leave for appeal against the sentence is dismissed with cost.”
The Paralympian will now serve his six year jail term after he was in June found guilty of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.
