Bogus cops target motorists
“I ran into oncoming traffic and almost got hit by one of the vehicles. Two vehicles drove past, but one woman stopped.”
A Centurion resident who was almost abducted by six men posing as traffic police, has urged the public, particularly woman, to be alert.
The 61-year-old woman was driving along Olievenhoutbosch Drive from John Vorster Road in Eco Park, Centurion, last Saturday afternoon, when she was pulled over by two men posing as traffic officers.
The men asked the woman for her ID and driver’s licence, which she handed to them while still in the car.
The “officers” then asked the woman to get out of the car and accompany them to their vehicle so they could check for any outstanding traffic fines on their database.
Speaking to Rekord, the woman said she noticed the so-called traffic officers were driving an unbranded 4×4.
She said another unbranded vehicle, a white X5 BMW, then pulled up behind the 4×4.
“I immediately got the feeling something was not okay.”
She said all four doors of the BMW were opened but the men in uniform could not be seen.
“Next thing I knew, someone grabbed me from behind and tried to force me inside the vehicle.”
The woman fought back and managed to escape and started screaming for help.
“I ran into oncoming traffic and almost got hit by a car. Two vehicles drove past, but one woman stopped.”
She said when the men saw someone had pulled over to help her, they sped off.
“I have reported the incident to the Tembisa police, but they said they could not do anything without some form of identification.”
Although she was severely traumatised by the episode, the woman said she was doing okay.
“I am fine. This is not the first time something like this has happened to me.”
She said about three-and-a-half years ago, seven men entered her office and held her and her staff at gunpoint.
“I was beaten up badly, but in the end I survived. I just want to warn the public so they can be aware and vigilant.”
