Beaten man awaits prosecution
A man who was severely beaten for allegedly killing a woman, remained under heavy police guard.
A man allegedly beaten up by a mob in Olievenhoutbosch will be charged with murder once discharged from hospital.
Erasmia police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said: “The man (40), who was attacked by a mob in Olivenhoutbosch, Extension 13, around 07:00 on Monday remained in hospital with severe injuries.”
“We [police] can confirm the man is in hospital under heavy police guard and will have his day in court once discharged.”
Moloto said the police believed a 20-year-old woman was on her way to work when she was approached by the man. An argument ensued during which the woman was stabbed multiple times in her upper body. She died on the scene.
“Residents caught and assaulted the man as he attempted to flee.”
“The motive behind the killing was still unknown.”
Moloto said an investigation into the murder was underway.
“We are checking if fingerprints on the bloodied knife found near the woman’s body matched the alleged attacker’s.”
A murder docket was opened at the Olivenhoutbosch police station on Monday.
