A man accused of killing his dog in Mooikloof Ridge is scheduled to be back in court in December.
Wetnose Animal Rescue inspector Jacques van der Merwe said the trial of the alleged animal-killer was postponed on 23 August.
He would be back in the Hatfield Magistrate’s Court on 5 December.
The man’s arrest, earlier this month, followed an apparent altercation with his wife – which led to the dog biting him.
He allegedly stabbed the animal six times with a knife.
Van der Merwe said the Wetnose centre received a call from a crèche in Mooikloof about the episode.
The man’s children reported to their teacher that they had found the dog wrapped in plastic in the house.
Van der Merwe said the dog was still alive when the animal-rescue team arrived on scene.
It later succumbed to its injuries.
The accused man lived at a complex home in Mooikloof Ridge at the time of the alleged attack.
A manager of the complex told Rekord on Wednesday that the man had since moved out.
