Body found in cemetery points to suicide – police
Discovery of a dead man with gunshot wound to the head found in cemetery.
A man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head in the Zandfontein cemetery in the west of Pretoria recently.
Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said the 60-year-old man was found dead inside his car last Thursday around 10:00.
“Recent reports have led police to believe the man may have killed himself,” Moloto said.
He said investigations were ongoing.
“We [police] found a gun in the vehicle which was later discovered to have belonged to the 60-year-old man.”
Asked whether the bullet that killed the man matched the gun, Moloto said ballistics would confirm and he would provide confirmation later.
“Information on the scene shows no foul play.”
He said documents and the man’s belongings were found inside the white Nissan X-trail parked inside the cemetery and nothing seemed to have been stolen.
The body was discovered by passers-by who noticed a white Nissan X-trail parked inside the cemetery.
“Police were alerted and on their arrival found the man’s body seated inside the vehicle,” Moloto said.
Confirming that no suicide note was found, Moloto said the firearm could lead police to more clarity on the matter.
“The motive is still unknown.”
