How to avoid cash robbery
Police warn of cash robberies during the first week of spring.
Residents and business owners have been warned to be alert as cash robberies were expected to increase during the first week of spring.
“People must avoid having large sums of money with them so if they need to pay their accounts they must consider paying electronically or use cellphone banking facilities,” said the SAPS in a statement released on its Twitter account.
The SAPS said since it was month end, it was likely that businesses would be targeted for cash robberies.
“Small businesses are cash-based and will need to make payments at banks. They must make arrangements in advance and avoid telling a lot of people about their plans or showing people the amount of money they have made.”
Police said business owners should avoid handling their cash personally.
“If the amount of cash regularly deposited is increasing as your business grows, consider using the services of cash management company.”
The SAPS said business people should also avoid carrying money bags or briefcases and consider depositing money at their bank’s nearest branch.
