No arrest in Rally legend’s murder

Investigation into the murder of Jan Hettema is ongoing.

No arrests have been made in the senseless murder of rally champion Jan Hettema (83).

Hettema was killed on his smallholding in the east of Pretoria in June.

Police spokesperson Captain Marissa van der Merwe said the police investigation was ongoing, but no arrests had been made.

Hettema was shot and killed by two burglars in Boschkop around 08:00, on 29 June.

His wife, a housekeeper and her baby were locked in a closet by the two men.

Hettema was the father of singer Helena Hettema and was especially known for his skills as a rally driver.

During his funeral service at the Brooklyn Methodist Church, Helena shared her last memories of her father.

She said he was not only a champion among rally enthusiasts, but also the family’s champion dad.

“You were the best dad in the world. I will carry you with me wherever I go.”
