Security officer shot dead
The officer was found dead in his car with his bullet proof vest on the seat next to him.
A security officer was shot dead in the east of Pretoria on Tuesday night.
ADT’s General Manager Theunis Kotze said his reaction officer was gunned down while responding to an alarm at the Spadereen Church on St Joseph Street in Eersterust around 11:45.
“The officer checked the property and returned to his vehicle where he contacted the ADT monitoring centre to confirm that all was well,” said Kotze.
“Sitting in his vehicle, it is believed that an individual approached the car and shot the officer in an attempt to steal his firearm.
The officer died on the scene and his firearm was missing.
Kotze said investigations were underway and conveyed the firm’s condolences to the family.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo said police responded to what was reported to be a robbery in progress.
They found the security officer’s body in his car with his bullet proof vest on the seat next to him.
Shibambo confirmed the man’s firearm was missing.
Police were investigating.
