Four men arrested for stolen laptops
When police asked the men to activate the laptops, they punched in wrong passwords.
Four men were arrested in Silverton for possession of stolen laptops on Friday morning.
Silverton police spokesperson captain Jan Sepato said the men were arrested when police were doing a stop-and-search patrol in the area.
“Four Nigerian men driving a silver Kia Rio were stopped by police. The car boot was searched and three laptops were found,” he explained.
When police asked the men to activate the laptops, they punched in wrong passwords, Sepato added.
“They could not tell us who the real owners of these laptops were,” he said.
The men were then taken to the Silverton police station where the laptops were thoroughly checked.
“When the serial codes were punched into the system, we found that the Dell laptop was stolen in Secunda, while the Acer laptop was stolen in Piet Retief,” he said.
Sepato said it was unknown at this stage where the third laptop was stolen. He warned criminals to refrain from committing crime in the area.
“We will do everything in our power to eradicate crime and criminal elements in our community,” he said.
The four Nigerians will be appearing in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court for possession of stolen property on Monday.
