Man arrested for cable theft
A man was arrested for cable theft as well as contravening Section 3(3) of the Second-Hand Goods Act 2009 (Act No. 6 of 2009).
A 33-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for possession of suspected stolen property.
He was also charged for contravening Section 3(3) of the Second-Hand Goods Act 2009 (Act No. 6 of 2009).
Tshwane metro police department (TMPD) officers were conducting bylaw operations in Pretoria West and while inspecting a scrapyard they found cables lying on the ground which the owner could not account for.
When the man was questioned, he admitted the cables were sold to him.
According to the police report, the estimated street value of the cables was between R20 000 and R30 000.
The cables are believed to have been stolen from Telkom as they had Telkom signs on them. The estimated damage value to Telkom is R50 000.
Metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said: “Well done to the officers for their hard work. Cable theft is a concern to the metro.”
“The TMPD will continue to do their best in combating crime and to deal decisively with those found committing cable theft.”
Mahamba urged residents to report any crime to the TMPD on 012-358-7095/6 or to the nearest police station.
