Pedestrian dies after being hit by vehicle

The pedestrian was already dead when paramedics arrived on the scene.

A pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle in Waterkloof Ridge on Monday evening.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Braam Kruger said this happened on Rigel Avenue near the N1 highway around 18:00.

“The pedestrian was hit and passed away on the scene prior to our arrival. Multiple occupants (from the vehicle) were transported to hospital with minor injuries.”

Kruger said the cause of the accident was unknown.

According to an eyewitness, the body was seen on the Rigel avenue off-ramp around 19:30.

“[As we drove passed] My passenger pointed to something lying in the road, which he thought was a body.”

“On our way back (about 20:10), we saw a convoy of police vehicles and ambulances. Traffic was held up from Rigel towards the Centurion side,” he said.

Garsfontein police were not aware of the incident when the story went to print.
