Scores arrested during weekend operation

Fifty-three people were arrested during a surprise raid by Ga-Rankuwa police on the weekend.
The suspects were arrested for various crimes such as operating illegal shebeens, dealing in counterfeit goods and possession of stolen goods.
Police spokesperson Captain Mathews Nkoadi said police dealt crime a heavy blow in Ga-Rankuwa and surrounding areas, shutting down the illegal shebeens many criminals frequent.
He said police conducted surprise raids on shebeens, stop and searches on roads and sporadic roadblocks.
“A variety of the latest movies and music CDs were also seized,” he said.
Nkoadi said some of the suspects were arrested for crimes such as murder, rape, robberies, drunken driving, possession of dagga, shoplifting and traffic offences among others.
“All suspects will appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s court soon,” he said.
He asked residents to report any misconduct or criminal activity by the police officers.
