Man gunned down in taxi-violence
Police are investigating a shooting in Centurion that left a man dead on Wednesday afternoon.
A man was shot and killed on Wednesday afternoon in Centurion in what appeared to be a taxi-violence incident.
Shots were allegedly fired around 16:30 from a taxi near the R55 in Centurion, where the man was fatally wounded.
Hannes Du Buisson of Centurion Concerned Citizens said the shootout was reported by a motorist who thought he was being hijacked.
“The motorist said he saw five men cross the road when the shots were fired from a taxi.”
According to police spokesperson, Captain Augustine Selepe, shots were fired from two vehicles, a Quantum and a Toyota Tazz, at another vehicle.
“Four occupants in the vehicle, that was being shot at, got out and fled on foot.”
Selepe said the Quantum and Tazz followed the fleeing men and one of the fleeing men was shot and killed in Theron Street.
Du Buisson said: “The taxi, where the shots were fired from, is apparently from Randburg.”
The shooters fled the scene before police and security arrived.
No arrests have yet been made.
