‘Brothers stabbed trying to save friend’
A teenager was stabbed to death and his two friends were critically wounded in Hammanskraal on Sunday.
Two brothers are in a critical condition in hospital after they were stabbed while allegedly trying to save a friend’s life.
Amos (24) and Jabu Kunene (28) were apparently at a tavern with Mpho April Kgotle (18) on Sunday when a stranger attacked Kgotle.
The brothers allegedly forced themselves between the man and Kgotle, who had already sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper body, to stop the attack but the knife-wielding man attacked them too.
Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said Kgotle fell to the ground outside a tavern in Marokolong, Hammanskraal, and died on the scene.
“The two brothers were rushed to hospital with serious injuries. They are still in intensive care,” said Moremi.
“The deceased and his attacker had been arguing over a girlfriend.”
Moremi said the attacker fled the scene and a manhunt was launched for him.
“He was later arrested at his aunt’s house in Carousel View.”
He was expected to appear in the Moretele Magistrate’s Court in Hammanskraal soon to face a charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
