Sars loses R90m after fraud scam
Seven of the co-accused were out on bail ranging between R20 000 and R100 000.
The SA revenue service (Sars) has suffered losses of about R90 million after a man had submitted false tax claims for six years.
Sello Athlone Rathete (52) was arrested at his home in Centurion at the weekend after an ongoing investigation.
He appeared in the Johannesburg Regional Court on Wednesday for fraud and money laundering.
Hawks Captain Ndivhuwo Malamu said Rathete had been working with nine accomplices over the six-year period
Rathete and his co-accused had been submitting false tax returns to Sars from existing companies that did not accumulate any dividend for the said period.
Seven of the co-accused were out on bail, ranging between R20 000 and R100 000.
