Taxi boss shooting not related to taxi violence
Men in the Quantum and Tazz chased after the fleeing taxi bosses and one was shot and killed .
The taxi association has moved swiftly to allay fears of an outbreak of taxi violence in Centurion.
The SA national taxi council (Santaco) said the killing of a taxi boss near the R55 on Wednesday was not related to any taxi violence.
According to the police, an unknown number of people in a Toyota Quantum and Toyota Tazz, drove up to four taxi bosses who had parked on the side of the road for a chat and opened fire, killing one.
Captain Augustinah Selepe said: “The assailants got out of their vehicles and started firing shots at the taxi bosses.
“The bosses managed to get out of their vehicle and fled on foot but the assailants gave chase and killed one boss in Theron Street.”
Selepe said the other three hid.
Emer-G-Med spokesperson Braam Kruger said this happened on the corner of the R55 and R114 (Tulip Road).
“Paramedics found a middle-aged male had been killed, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.”
Kruger said paramedics declared the man dead on the scene.
