Kidnapped doctor saved from hijackers
"My son peeped through the window and saw one of the hijackers getting into the doctor’s car."
The prompt reaction of neighbours and the Walkie-talkie Zello-app are the reasons that local dentist, dr. Rickes Putter’s life was saved in an attempted hijacking and kidnapping.
Dr. Putter was sitting in his car in front of his office when another car came from around the corner.
The neighbours, who are retired police workers’ son heard the screeching-tyre sound of a motor vehicle and a gun being cocked.
Bets Makkink, a retired police administration clerk in the homicide division said her husband is a retired police lieutenant colonel and her son is also an administration clerk in the police.
“We all know what the cocking of a gun sounds like.”
Bets said her son was working on his car outside the house and saw one man getting out a vehicle, approaching the dentist.
“My son shouted from outside the house: ‘Mom the dentist is being hijacked.”
“I immediately called the Zello-App.”
She said both cars sped off. “They hijacked and kidnapped him.”
“When I got outside, the police where there as well as the CPF, Cop Watch and Monitor Net.”
Rickes’ wife, dr. Wiki Putter said they thank God and the community for saving her husband’s life.
A receptionist at the dentistry said they are grateful for the neighbours’ alertness and courtesy.
Tumisang Moloto, spokesperson for the Wierdabrug Police said they are investigating a case of carjacking and at this stage no arrest have been made. “The suspects are still at large.”
