Three still in custody after shootout
The trio are still in jail after their bail application was postponed.
Three men arrested after a shootout with police in Olievenhoutbosch last Wednesday, still in custody.
Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said the trio appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday, on charges of attempted murder and possession of stolen property.
“Their bail application was postponed to next Monday (19 September). They will remain in custody until then.”
Selepe earlier said the police received a tip-off about a group of people acting suspiciously and dealing money.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the men, fired shots at the police and a shootout ensued.
The suspects were overpowered and arrested in Ikati Street, Olievenhoutbosch, around 20:00.”
Selepe said the men used three taxis, which police searched following the shootout.
“In one of the taxis, identity documents belonging to Pakistani and Bangladeshi nationals were found.”
“It is believed the men stole from spaza shops belonging to the nationals.”
Selepe said investigations were still ongoing.
