Mother and sons still traumatised after robbery

The 37-year old woman who was mugged in front of her two sons at Laerskool Wierdapark, Centurion last week says despite still being traumatised, all of them are doing “okay”.
The woman and her sons were behind her car after she had handed them their schoolbags. Armed robbers cornered them and held her sons captive while demanding her wedding ring and car keys.
The robbers then drove of with the car keys and wedding ring.
“The children are seeing a child psychologist and my husband and I are also seeing a psychologist to help us get through the trauma,” the woman said.
She said whenever they drive somewhere, her younger son would sit on his knees and look through the window. “He is still very traumatised and scared.”
“I also thought I was doing okay, but I’ve realised that I’m very jumpy after the incident.”
She said her advice to anyone in such a situation is to stay calm.
“People should not get agitated. They should stay calm, because they don’t know who they are dealing with or how dangerous the thugs can be.”
Jaco De Bruin, a schoolboard representative of Laerskool Wierdapark, said they have consulted with security company Monitor Net and new strategies have already been implemented while children are in the school area.
De Bruin said there were also other developments, but he could not elaborate for safety reasons.
“It is important to look out for each other and make sure our kids are 100-percent safe,” De Bruin said.
