NEWSFLASH: Burglar shot in the east
“The burglar attacked and the owner opened fire.”
A burglar was shot and wounded in Brooklyn on Thursday morning.
Police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt said a home owner heard a noise outside his front door in High Street around 11:00.
“The owner went to his safe to fetch his firearm and when he returned, he found the man had gained entry to his house.”
Breedt said the burglar had a pick-axe and a flat screen TV in his hands.
“The owner told the burglar to leave his house, but the burglar attacked and the owner opened fire.”
The burglar was shot in his stomach, but continued to assault the owner with the axe.
The owner was still firing shots while trying to flee, and shot the burglar in the leg.
The burglar then collapsed.
The owner alerted police, who responded and apprehended the man.
Breedt said the burglar was under police guard at a local hospital.
“A docket for house breaking was opened at the station.”
ER 24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing Harduth said medics responded and found the burglar, in his 30s, lying on the ground.
She confirmed the man was transported to a local hospital under heavy police guard.
