Stolen copper cables seized

About 864kg of the cables belonged to the metro.

A man has been arrested in connection with copper cables worth R165 000 seized by the metro police on Monday.

Metro police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba said the copper was found in a scrap yard.

About 864kg of the cables belonged to the metro, and were worth about R100 000.

The other 100kg of cables worth about R65 000 were the property of Telkom.

“We are currently working around the clock to make sure cable theft is resolved. We will not stop until we see a difference,” says Mahamba.

“To those involved in this crime, we are coming for you and plan on dealing with you decisively.”

He urged anyone with information on crime to call the metro police on 012-358-7095/6.
