Muddy street a nightmare
Spilling water from a burst pipe has made the lives of Soshanguve residents very difficult.
A water pipe that burst in Soshanguve last Thursday, has still not been fixed.
Residents of Extension 13 told Rekord that water was being wasted while a number of people were without water.
“We are made to walk in mud while they (Tshwane metro officials) are driving their flashy cars,” said Juluka Aphane, a resident.
Aphane said when residents reported the burst pipe, they were sent from pillar to post.
“We went to our councillor, and the local office and they kept promising to look at the pipe, but for how long should we wait?” asked Aphane.
Another resident, Amanda Jiyana, said she was concerned about those who used public transport because taxis did not want to enter the affected area.
“I am mobile but worry about the effect the burst [pipe] has on the residents who rely on public transport so I wrote to the metro to ask them to attend to this matter,” said Jiyana.

A taxi driver, Ofentse Mollo, said the taxi business was affected because drivers did not want to stop next to the affected area.
“We do more than just cleaning and changing tires, people board your taxi with muddy shoes and who will clean up that mess?” asked Mollo.
Mollo said because he could not work around the main entrance of the section, he could no longer meet his target.
“I suffer and so do the people who rely on public transport to reach schools, hospitals and their work.”
No comment had been received from the Tshwane metro by the time of publishing.
