LISTEN: Emotional recollection of how caretaker’s daughter found out about his death

Heartbroken daughter prayed that her dad was only pretending to be dead to protect himself from the shooter.

Charlize Gobey, daughter of the caretaker who was gunned down during a hostage situation in Moreleta Park on Wednesday told Rekord in an emotional voice clip that she found out from social media that her dad was murdered.

Charlize asked on Wednesday on Facebook for people to pray for her dad shortly after the news broke of the shootings.

“Guys please pray for my dad. He might be one of the men shot and no one will give us any information….. please please please pray……”

She later confirmed that her dad was in fact one of the men who were shot dead after she found out her dad was killed in the shooting.

LISTEN to the emotional voice clip:

“I asked people if anyone know anything of what is going on, they must please let me know, or if anyone is at the scene and they can provide me with any info, they must please let me know. A woman replied to me that she is at the scene, and she has photos of two of the people that were laying outside.

“I then send her a photo of me and my dad, and asked her if my dad was one of the two men. The women then asked me if she could send me a photo of the two men, and when I received the photo I immediately recognised my dad. I saw blood on his leg, but hoped that he was only pretending to be dead, so that the guy would not shoot at him again.

“But everything was pointing to the fact that he was dead. I needed to find out from people as well as social media that my dad was one of the victims as the police did not want to confirm anything to me or my mom at that point.”
