
Convicted and killer and former right-wing politician Clive Derby-Lewis died on Thursday afternoon.
He was diagnosed with lung cancer in prison, where he was serving a life sentence for the assassination of former SA Communist Party leader Chris Hani.
The 80-year-old Derby-Lewis died in a Pretoria hospital.
He was granted medical parole after spending 20 years in prison for Hani’s murder in the early 90s. Doctors agreed that he was suffering from stage four cancer at the time of his release.
Derby-Lewis’ wife Gaye reportedly confirmed his death on Thursday.
He supplied a firearm to Janusz Walus, who shot dead Hani in the driveway of his Boksburg home on 10 April 1993.
Derby-Lewis is a former MP for the defunct Conservative Party.
