The Tshwane north cluster police arrested 225 people during a crime prevention operation, police said on Monday.
The “successful operation” was conducted from Thursday to Sunday.
“The activities included suspect raiding ,crime prevention, stop and searches and sporadic [random] roadblocks,” said police spokesperson Captain Mathews Nkoadi.

He said the arrests in Pretoria North, Ga-Rankuwa, Soshanguve, Mabopane and Winterveldt were for murder, armed robbery, business burglary, illegal possession of rhino horns, possession of dagga and shoplifting among others.
He said others were fined for contravention of the Road Traffic Act.”
He said liquor, diesel, dagga and knifes were seized during the operations, while over 600 persons, 101 vehicles and 61 premises were searched.

“The arrested are due in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court soon.”
He said the police and other law enforcement officials would continue with the operations to maintain stability, peace, law and security particularly in areas where crime was higher than normal or where the criminal element has established itself.

Participating in the operation were the SAPS and immigration officials.
