About 600 Pretoria Central preschool learners got off to a good start this year with a stationery donation.
The donation was made by Redefine Properties.
Children from neighbouring areas also benefited.
A handover ceremony was held in the city centre at Sammy Marks Square, which is owned by Redefine Properties.
Spokesperson Caley May said the company had been supporting preschools since 2013.
“We strive to make our community a better place and there is no better foundation than education,” said May.
“We selected these preschools four years ago and have been supporting them with much-needed stationery.”
The training centre manager at the square, Vhutshilo Makananise, said the company realised the effect learning had on children.
This is why Redefine Properties initiated the stationary drive.
“Learning is empowering and we trust the children will realise their full potential as they grow.”
Principal Evelyn Nankya Matova said: “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Sammy Marks Square [Redefine] for their innovative drive and donation.”
“Stationery is a non-negotiable need as most of our learners cannot afford it.”
Sammy Marks Square is based in the heart of Pretoria’s central business district and home to more than 55 retail stores.
