Gerhard van Rooyen is sought by the police in connection with a number of fraud cases.
Police have launched a manhunt for the son of notorious paedophile Gert van Rooyen.
Gerhard van Rooyen is sought by the Wonderboompoort police in connection with a number of fraud cases.
Police spokesperson Constable Mandlakayise Zwane, on Monday said Gerhard also went by an alias, Gerrit Cornelius van Rhyn.
Zwane said that in March 2013 Gerhard advertised a house to let in newspapers and on Facebook.

“He would leave his details for people to contact him. And once they did, he would ask them to deposit money into an account or use money market,” Zwane said.
“To cover his tracks, he would make sure that the money is deported into an associate’s account, before disappearing without trace.”
Zwane said in other cases Gerhard would advertise that he was selling a vehicle and request those interested to deposit cash into his friend’s account.
He said once the cash was deposited, he would disappear without a trace.

“In 2013 he asked a resident to deposit R12 000 into his wife, Elana Goes’, account,” Zwane said.
“In another case he pretended to be selling a car and a lady from Klerksdorp deposited R30 000 into one of his bogus accounts.”
Zwane said Gerhard was arrested in March in Western Cape.
“He was later released on R8 000 bail, and his bail conditions were, to sign in at the Villieria police every Wednesday, to never commit similar offences to the one he was on bail for until the finalisation of the case, and to never leave Gauteng without notifying the Villieria police or the court,” he said.
Zwane said that Gerhard had since been on the run and continued to commit a string of crimes.
Residents were warned not to be dubbed into such scams.
Those who may know his whereabouts were urged to contact Detective Warrant Officer Lourens Lemmer on 081-531-3785, 012-335-2818 or 086-001-0111.
Gert van Rooyen and his female companion, Joey Haarhoff, are believed to be responsible for the abduction, sexual assault and murder of several missing girls across the country in the 1980s.
