A man accused of the murder of his ex-girlfriend has been denied bail in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court.
Phineus Mampane pleaded not guilty on 21 August to killing Lindiwe Eva Sangweni on 24 June.
The 35-year-old would remain in custody until 29 August when he is expected in court again.
Mampane allegedly stabbed Sangweni to death with a knife in Mamelodi West.
The Mamelodi police confirmed the accused was arrested by residents who later handed him over to the police.

Mampane was said to have followed the woman to her sister’s house in Mamelodi West where he allegedly attacked her.
“Locals heard a noise coming from the room and went to investigate,” said police.
“They apparently found Mampane removing the intestines of the woman.”
The murder was allegedly committed in full view of the victim’s four-year-old daughter.
“Mampane and his victim were no longer a couple and she had obtained a protection order against him,” said the police.

Protesters, including the ANC Women’s League, gathered outside the court demanding Mampane not be granted bail.
They held placards on which they had written: “The court should not grant the suspect bail and justice must prevail.”
Other posters called for the end to women and children abuse demanding justice for Sangweni.
They vowed to sustain their effort to the end of the trial to ensure justice was done.
