The Silverton police have welcomed the recent sentencing of a man for raping and killing a teenage girl in Nellmapius.
The Pretoria Magistrate’s Court last week gave James Mojela (40) three life sentences for the rape and murder plus an additional 15 years for robbery, said police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato.
Mojela was convicted for the rape and murder of the 17-year-old three years ago.
“The teen was reported missing on 7 August and a day later, her naked body was found at the dumpsite in Nellmapius. It is believed that the teen was raped before she was strangled to death with her pair of jeans,” he said.

Sepato said intense investigations linked the rapist to two other rape incidents in Siyabuswa, Mpumalanga.
“While police were investigating this case, our detectives matched the rapist with two rape cases and a robbery in Mpumalanga. The two dockets were combined.
We traced Mojela to his place of work in Lynnwood in March 2015 where he was arrested,” he said.
He was sentenced last Tuesday and will serve a combined 75 years.
“As the Silverton SAPS, we applaud T.A Sadike [lead investigator] for his good work. We also want to thank the victim’s family for being strong through court processes.”
