Kilnerpark residents clean their streets

“Credit goes to everyone who participated. Thank you guys.”

Concerned Kilnerpark residents gathered early on Saturday morning to fight back against constant illegal dumping.

Around 25 residents participated in the campaign to clean up their streets and surrounding areas.

The event was organised by resident Siva Sivakumar.

Elmarie Booysen, of Huis Eljorie, supplied refreshments.

Sivakumar said everyone’s contribution added to the success of the event.

“Credit goes to everyone who participated. Thank you guys,” he said.

“A special thanks for the refreshments and the truck with the trailer which helped us with the waste removal.”

DA ward councillor Roelof Fourie thanked and congratulated those involved in the campaign.

“It is, unfortunately, true that there will never be enough money to do all the things we want to do as far as municipal services are concerned,” said Fourie.

“It is also true that the new political leadership in the metro must work very hard to change the way services and money are managed.”

Fourie said much had already been achieved since their appointment in August last year.

“We are looking forward to the implementation of the micro structure, once it is approved by the council.”

He said it would improve the level of service delivery in a tangible and visible way.

“I also look forward to the establishment of a formal residents association, as was mentioned on Saturday.”

Fourie said if other community groups in his ward wanted to organise the same type of operation in their areas, they should contact him on 082-578-9839 or RoelofF@tshwane.gov.za.
