Metro: Use water sparingly

“We have observed that since the beginning of September, water consumption has increased drastically, resulting in high water demand.”

In a statement by the Tshwane metro, they urged residents to use water sparingly to avoid water shortages.

“We have observed that since the beginning of September, water consumption has increased drastically, resulting in high water demand,” it said.

“This has resulted in Rand Water putting strict measures in place to ensure that the allowable existing water abstraction limit from the Vaal dam is not exceeded.”

They have observed that some residents fill up buckets with water and others use hoses and take to the streets to splash one another with water during the heat.

“This has caused Rand Water to restrict their meters that supply water to various reservoirs throughout the City,” it said.

The following are areas, which Rand Water has restricted due to the drastic
increase in water consumption:

“In order for the metro to ensure there is continued provision of water to all its residents, it has also started to restrict the reservoirs of those areas that have high consumption of water, which levels are below 40%.”

The restrictions are applicable throughout the year, regardless of the season.

“We therefore urge consumers to continue conserving water by using it wisely and
