St Albans host championships

The top 15 speakers were selected to a delegation to represent South Africa at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championship (WIDPSC) next year.

St Albans College recently hosted about 50 speakers from 11 different schools countrywide to compete in the highly anticipated annual National Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championship (NIDPSC).

The championship is structured in such a way that speakers compete across four different categories – prepared speeches (persuasive- / after dinner speeches), interpretive reading, impromptu speaking and debating over the course of four days.

The top 15 speakers were selected to a delegation to represent South Africa at the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championship (WIDPSC) next year.

The top three speakers in this year’s championship were Matthew Field of St Alban’s College, in third place, Caitlin Laing of Clarendon Girls High School in second place and Nicholas Peile of Bishops Diocesan College in first place.

St Alban’s College is also very proud to announce that three of its learners – Matthew Field, Yangeni Saidi and Keroshan Pillay – were selected to the delegation.

The championship was a lovely opportunity to celebrate young minds and their gift of orating. These orators show a lot of courage and certainly leave audiences inspired and hopeful.
