Cable theft left residents north of Pretoria without power on Thursday.
The Tshwane metro said the power outage was a consequence of the theft of cables and batteries at the Ga-Rankuwa substation in the morning.
“We strongly condemn the theft of cables as it leads to service interruption and we call on all our residents to report suspicious behaviour around substations.”

The metro said Eskom supplied electricity to Ga-Rankuwa but it had dispatched technicians to assess the damage so it could advise on the estimated time of restoration.
The metro said its police had made significant strides in the recent past to curb cable theft which cost it a minimum of R5 million a month.
It urged residents to report cable theft and vandalism on 012-358-7095/6.
