Mams school celebrates heritage month

Learners and teachers dressed up in their beautiful different cultural clothing.

Mahlasedi-Masana primary school in Mamelodi East celebrated heritage month by hosting two annual events on Friday.

The events started with the “career dress-up day” and followed by the celebration of heritage month whereby teachers and learners dressed up according to their cultures.

Grade 7 teacher Mamosetse Mkanzi said the learners celebrated by dressing up in clothes pertaining to their career choices.

She said the learners were dressed as doctors, police officers, traffic officers, nurses and others, as part of life orientation subject.

“Each and learners did a speech to explain why they chose a particular career they got marks for life orientation for the third term examination that will be added in the end final marks,” said Mkanzi.

The aim of the career dress-up day is to help the learners to discover what they want in life pupils know how to run a business and how to market it.

Grade 5 teacher Busisiwe Masilela said dressing up in traditional clothes was an opportunity for the pupils to express their culture and to know each other’s backgrounds.

Most of the learners were dressed up in Tsonga, Zulu, and Sepedi – reflecting languages taught at the school.

The event ended with a Mr and Miss Heritage Day.
