Pretoria teenager allegedly raped at matric farewell

A 17-year-old pupil was allegedly raped by a scholar patroller last month.

A 17-year-old pupil of the Mahube Valley Secondary School in Mamelodi was allegedly raped by a scholar patroller at the matric farewell, the Gauteng department of education said in a statement on Sunday.

MEC Panyaza Lesufi will visit Mahube Valley secondary school on Monday to receive a report on another alleged rape incident, this time of a 17-year-old girl learner by a scholar patroller.

The incident occurred last month.

This comes days after reports of 87 learners of the AB Xuma primary school in Soweto being sexually assaulted.

“It is disappointing that we keep receiving such depressing information,” Lesufi said.

Officials are hard at work conducting necessary counselling at the school in question, he said.
