With over 500 students participating, Abbotts students were tasked with coming up with a solution for solving the water crisis in the South Sudan.

Students from Abbotts College in Pretoria East recently scooped two awards at the 5th annual model UN debates.

The debates were held at Wits University in conjunction with the South African Institute of International Affairs. More than 150 schools participated in the event.

Abbots College students “represented” South Sudan, while other delegates represented other countries such as Egypt, Morocco and France.

Delegates all learnt a lot and realised that, although it was only a model debate, the problems faced were very real.

Guest speakers, such as the ambassador of Denmark, inspired delegates to strive to make a difference in the world.

Abbotts College said it is very proud to have been part of such an amazing experience, which has brought about great recognition to the students who were involved, namely Resimate Maluleke, Kagiso Tlholo, Thabiso Nhleko and Carol Chauke.
