Fears of a sinkhole threat in Valhalla

Crack which is caused by speeding vehicles.

Fears have been voiced of a sinkhole appearing in Valhalla, Centurion.

The possible threat was conveyed on Thursday evening by Ward 66 councillor Ina Strijdom.

She said geologists were investigating a possible crack in Stephanus Schoeman Street in Valhalla.

This might mean that the street could be in danger.

“The geologist who came inspected the affected area and assured me that it was a crack caused by speeding,” she said.

She urged residents to use alternative routes.

“Road users are urged to rather use alternative roads until the extent of the threat has been determined.”

Strijdom said the street concerned did not fall under the jurisdiction of the Tshwane metro but that of the national government.

“Tshwane metro is in the process of setting up a meeting with the national department of transport who will facilitate the meeting.”

Strijdom said the ownership of the street and its maintenance would be on the agenda at the meeting.
