The Woodhill College High School robotics teams participated in the Afrikabot Competition at Zwartkops Raceway recently.
Afrikabot was hosted by the University of Johannesburg.
The challenge involved getting the bots through a maze in the fastest time possible.
The teams built their bots from scratch – soldering resistors, transistors and various other electronic components to circuit boards.
Arduino microcontrollers were used to control the robots’ motors and the teams programmed them using Arduino software.
They had lots of fun and learnt so much.
Woodhill College came second in the high school division and won the Innovation trophy for the most innovative use of technology.
They are looking forward to competing in various robotics competitions next year and encourage learners to join the robotics teams.
