“When he walked towards the ladies bathroom, this Nigerian lady walked out pushing a wheelchair and the
person in the wheelchair was slumped over. He noticed the person had the same shoes as his girlfriend so he walked over and pushed the hair out of her face and saw it was his girlfriend.”
It is unclear when the message started circulating, but Brooklyn police said they did not receive any complaints of this nature or had any related charges laid.
Spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said nothing was reported to the mall security or centre management.
The mall said no video footage verifying this information was found on any of its cameras.
Police urged people to be mindful when posting unverified information on social media platforms as this could cause panic.
“Police resources and time as well as resources from Brooklyn Mall were wasted to verify this false claim,” Weilbach said.
