Metro confirms services will continue during planned march
Municipal services, including buses, waste collection and customer service centres, will remain operational while authorities prepare for Tuesday's planned national march.
As South Africa prepares for a planned march on June 30, the metro stated that Tshwane Bus Services (TBS) and A Re Yeng buses will operate according to their normal schedules.
The police and other law enforcement agencies have significantly increased deployments across the country, with authorities insisting the day should remain a normal business day, despite heightened security measures.
Metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said the Tshwane metro respects the constitutional right to peaceful protest and remains committed to safeguarding public safety, which remains its highest priority.
“The city has activated its Disaster Operations Centre to co-ordinate emergency response, mobilise resources and manage critical information, ensuring a co-ordinated multi-agency response should the need arise,” Mashigo said.
He urged motorists to expect temporary road closures and possible traffic delays in areas along the march route.
“In addition, motorists are encouraged to plan alternative routes where necessary and to follow the directions of law enforcement officers.”
Mashigo said the public is also urged to rely on the metro’s official communication platforms for verified updates throughout the day.
“Municipal services will continue as far as reasonably possible. Waste collection and disposal services will operate according to the normal daily schedule.”
He added that electricity operations teams and technicians will remain on duty to respond to power supply faults, while water and sanitation artisans will continue carrying out maintenance work and ensuring the provision of water services.
“Customer walk-in service centres across the city will also remain open to assist residents with municipal enquiries and services,” Mashigo said.
He said the metro remains committed to maintaining essential service delivery while working with all stakeholders to ensure a safe and peaceful environment for residents and visitors.
“Those that will be engaging in peaceful and approved protests are requested to not interfere with municipal employees when they carry out their official duties.”
