She said not long after that he came back to his mother, crying and saying he is in pain “everywhere”.
“He collapsed soon after. He had a pulse for about a half an hour after that,” she said.
Venter said they suspected Du Toit broke his neck or sustained brain injury during the impact.
“Three of our paramedics were called to the scene. They spent about two hours with Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) to resuscitate him,” said Life Med ambulance services spokesperson Renata Erasmus.
After our paramedics did everything they could, the boy was declared dead on the scene.”
Venter thanked the paramedics for their dedication.
Du Toit was a grade 4 learner at Laerskool Wonderboom-Suid.
His school also paid their respects to Du Toit’s family.
“Du Toit was an outstanding learner and we are privileged to could have had him at our school,” they said.
“We will always remember his friendly face. He stood out in all aspects of his school career – academic, sports, arts and culture.”
He lived with his parents in Wonderboom South.
