Pretoria High School for Girls unveils new buildings
The new buildings have been erected in the style of the original architect, J.S. Cleland, to match the design and charm of the original buildings which were erected in 1915 and declared a national monument in 1977.
A few stakeholders gathered at Pretoria High School for Girls to unveil the new buildings on Monday.
Those in attendance included PHSG staff, SGB members, contractors who worked on site or had a role to play in the development, as well as various other VIP guests and close friends of the school.
Four new classrooms were unveiled, three replacing the old asbestos classrooms and one replacing a classroom that was lost when a bridge that connects the old building with the new building was constructed.
The Karen du Toit Book Room, which is named after the current headmistress, was also unveiled.
It was her vision to streamline the process of handing out textbooks and consolidating all the various textbook collection points into one central library.
Another building was named after one of PHSG’s alumna, Margret Roberts (the Margret Roberts Memorial Garden).
The memorial garden was made possible with the help of Magret’s daughters Sandy and Gail who are also alumnae of the school.

“We feel very privileged to have been in the position to replace our old prefabricated buildings. A tremendous amount of consideration and hard work went into the renovations and we believe it will greatly benefit not only our current learners but all of those yet to come,” said Kerry du Toit, spokesperson for the school.
