A suspected car hijacker was arrested in Mamelodi West on Tuesday, Silverton police said.
The man and an accomplice allegedly robbed a 25-year-old motorist who had stopped to get something from the boot of his car near the intersection of Albertus Street and Joan Avenue on Saturday.

“The man was approached by two men, one of whom pointed a firearm at him,” said police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato.
The men demanded the motorist hand over his keys, but he refused and was then shot in the buttocks. The robbers forcefully took the keys and sped off with his car.
The vehicle was recovered on the same day.

On Tuesday police received a tip-off that led them to a house in Mamelodi West.
There they recovered live ammunition rounds, jumper cables matching the make of the hijacked car, as well as items reported to have been in the vehicle when it was stolen.
“The suspect is facing hijacking and unlawful possession of ammunition charges,” Sepato said.
Police are still searching for the second suspect and have urged members of the public with information to contact the Silverton police station.
